Renaissance Theatre

The Théâtre de la Renaissance is identified by its stone facade, which features three levels of ornamentation and rhythmic, arched windows that look out over the boulevard. The architect Charles de Lalande designed this structure in eighteen seventy-two to occupy the space where a restaurant once stood before it was destroyed during the Commune of Paris. Completed in only eight months, the building showcases cariatides sculpted by Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse, who crafted the figures to support the balconies and represent the arts of drama and comedy.
