Jardin Bergeyre

The Jardin Bergeyre sits on a steep hillside in the nineteenth arrondissement, recognizable by the small, terraced plots of a community garden and the adjacent, neatly ordered rows of the Clos des Chaufourniers vineyard. Inaugurated on September twenty-sixth, two thousand four, this green space overlooks the city from a plateau that was once the site of the Stade Bergeyre. That stadium, opened in nineteen eighteen and named for a rugby player killed in the First World War, hosted matches during the nineteen twenty-four Paris Olympics before being razed in nineteen twenty-six due to the instability of the old gypsum quarry soil beneath it.
