The Théâtre Guignol Anatole sits within the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont as an open-air puppet stage identified by its traditional wooden castelet. The theater traces its lineage back to eighteen thirty-six, when the puppeteer Pierre Dumont first established a stage on the Champs-Élysées. It took its name from Anatole Cressigny, a dedicated apprentice who eventually succeeded Dumont in the nineteenth century.
