Monnaie de Paris

The Monnaie de Paris, or Paris Mint, is marked by a sprawling, neoclassical facade stretching over one hundred meters along the Quai de Conti. It is the oldest continuously operating mint in the world, tracing its origins to an edict issued by King Charles the Bald in eight hundred sixty-four. For twelve centuries, the institution has held the sovereign power to strike France’s currency, maintaining a direct link to the central authority of the state.
