Pont des Arts

The Pont des Arts is a pedestrian bridge crossing the Seine, recognizable by its transparent glass panels that replaced the former wire mesh railings. Commissioned by Napoleon Bonaparte and completed in eighteen oh four, it earned the distinction of being the first metal bridge in Paris. The structure originally featured nine arches and was designed as a lightweight, iron-cast walkway that connected the Institut de France on the Left Bank to the Palais du Louvre on the Right Bank.
