Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre

The church of Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre is one of the oldest religious buildings in Paris, recognizable by the weathered, humble stone facade that sits beside the trees of Square René Viviani. Construction of the current structure began between eleven sixty-five and eleven seventy on the foundations of a sixth-century chapel. It stands as a rare survivor from the era of King Louis the Seventh, who also oversaw the early years of Notre-Dame Cathedral across the river.
