Paroisse Saint-Paul Saint-Louis

The Paroisse Saint-Paul Saint-Louis is defined by its massive, ornate facade and a distinctively asymmetrical clock face. Built between sixteen twenty-seven and sixteen forty-one, it was the first church in Paris to break from the city's traditional Gothic style, embracing instead the lavish Italian Baroque aesthetic of the Jesuits. King Louis the Thirteenth laid the first stone, and the building was designed to mirror the mother church of the Jesuit order in Rome.
