Saint-Gervais-Saint-Protais

The church of Saint-Gervais-Saint-Protais is marked by a distinctive three-level facade that rises in a vertical stack of Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian columns. This arrangement, designed by Salomon de Brosse and Clément Métezeau between sixteen sixteen and sixteen twenty-one, established a new architectural standard in Paris as one of the first major examples of the French classical style. The building rests on a slight rise known as the Monceau Saint-Gervais, a site that has hosted religious structures since the sixth century.
