Madeleine cemetery

The Madeleine Cemetery was a parish burial ground that grew into a mass grave for victims of the French Revolution. Established by the parish of Sainte-Madeleine de la Ville-l'Évêque in seventeen twenty, it occupied a small plot of land near the intersection of rue d'Anjou and what is now Boulevard Haussmann. Its proximity to the Place de la Révolution, where the guillotine stood, made it the primary disposal site for those executed during the Reign of Terror.
