The site at ten rue de Richelieu once held the Hôtel de Ratabon, a private mansion built in sixteen sixty-four for the government official Antoine de Ratabon. Designed by the architect Pierre Le Muet, the structure featured a U-shaped layout that included a main wing facing the street and two lateral wings flanking an interior courtyard.
