Les Deux Magots

Inside the café, two wooden statues of Chinese merchants—the magots—perch on a central pillar, watching the tables as they have since the business opened at this location in the nineteenth century. These figurines were once the namesake of a novelty and silk shop that occupied the site, and they remained when the space transformed into a café in eighteen eighty-four.
