Basilica of St. Severin

The Basilica of Saint Severin reaches seventy-nine meters above the city, marking it as the tallest among Cologne's twelve Romanesque churches. Its exterior features a combination of architectural styles, where the solid Romanesque choir chancel at the rear meets the soaring late Gothic tower at the front. That tower replaced an earlier Romanesque version demolished in thirteen ninety-three, with the final stone cladding completed during the mid-sixteenth century.
