The Römisch-Germanisches Museum occupies the Belgisches Haus, a mid-twentieth-century structure defined by clean lines and large windows. Originally built by the Belgian state in nineteen forty-eight and forty-nine, the building served as a consulate general until twenty-fifteen. It now holds a rotating selection of treasures from Cologne’s Roman and early medieval history while the museum’s permanent site near the cathedral undergoes a major, long-term renovation.
