The EL-DE House is a six-story building on Appellhofplatz distinguished by its survival during the Second World War. While ninety-five percent of Cologne’s inner city was reduced to rubble by Allied bombing, this structure remained largely intact. It was built between nineteen thirty-four and nineteen thirty-five by the businessman Leopold Dahmen, whose initials provided the name EL-DE.
