Old St. Alban

Alt St. Alban is recognizable by its hollow, war-scarred shell that sits open to the sky in the middle of Cologne's Old Town. While the rest of the city was reconstructed after the Second World War, the decision was made to leave these twelfth-century Romanesque walls in their damaged state. Consecrated as a memorial in nineteen fifty-nine, the site holds a quiet space for reflection among the surrounding streets.
