The Church of Saint Isidore is tucked into the western slope of Lycabettus Hill, where it is anchored directly into the limestone rock. Part of the structure is built into a large cave, making the mountain wall itself the back of the church and the location of its altar. The building is an old, single-aisled basilica topped with a wooden roof, and it has existed on this slope since at least the fifteenth or sixteenth century.
