The Great Synagogue of Tel Aviv sits at one hundred ten Allenby Street, marked by a massive, prominent dome that rises above the surrounding business district. Designed by architect Yehuda Magidovitch and completed in nineteen twenty-six, the building was envisioned by the city’s founders as a central gathering place for the Jewish community. Twelve foundation stones representing the twelve tribes were sold to finance its construction, and Baron Edmond James de Rothschild provided the financial assistance necessary to complete the project when funds ran low.
