The Glico Sign is a massive billboard towering over the Dotonbori Canal, instantly recognizable by its depiction of a giant athlete sprinting across a blue track with his arms raised in victory. First installed in nineteen thirty-five by the confectionery company Ezaki Glico, the sign promotes the brand's original caramel candy, which founder Ri-ichi Ezaki marketed as an energy-boosting snack containing glycogen derived from oysters.
