Genshoji sits at the bottom of the slope that bears its name, a stone-paved incline in the Tennoji district that drops fifteen meters over one hundred and twenty meters of ground. This temple is one of many that line the eastern edge of the Uemachi Plateau, an area historically known as a temple district because roughly eighty Buddhist sites were relocated here during the Edo period.
