The blue-and-white Moorish-style tiles and the glowing neon sign mark the entrance to Churreria El Moro. Established in nineteen thirty-five, this shop occupies a building on Eje Central Lázaro Cárdenas, having evolved from a humble street cart first stationed in the Zócalo by Spanish immigrant Francisco Iriarte in nineteen thirty-three. Iriarte named the venture after the traveling churro vendors of his hometown, Elizondo, and the shop has remained a continuous presence in the city center ever since.
