Weaving with Rachid

Inside this space, Rachid Chliah works at a loom that has been in his family for five generations. This artisan is recognized by the Moroccan government for his mastery of traditional weaving, a craft deeply embedded in the history of the Rif Mountains. He uses a loom that is three hundred and fifty years old, maintaining techniques that have survived in Chefchaouen long after mass production became common elsewhere.
