Kamondo Stairs

The Kamondo Stairs are defined by their unique, winding geometry, where two separate paths begin at the bottom, merge, and split again to form an elongated, fluid shape that climbs the steep slope of the Galata district. Built between eighteen seventy and eighteen eighty, this limestone staircase connects Bankalar Caddesi, once the financial heart of the Ottoman Empire, with the residential streets above. The design, which blends Neo-Baroque and early Art Nouveau styles, creates a continuous, sweeping curve that stands out against the dense, straight-lined urban architecture of the area.
