The Italian Synagogue, known locally as the Kal de los Frankos, is distinguished by its formal Neo-Gothic facade and an exterior marble staircase that rises from the street. Located on Şair Ziya Paşa Street in the Galata district, the building stands as the heritage of a congregation established in the nineteenth century by Sephardic Jews of Italian origin. This group had separated from the main Jewish community of Istanbul following internal disputes in eighteen sixty-two and sought protection under the Italian crown.
