Çiçek Pasajı is recognizable by its grand glass roof and ornate, European-style facade that spans the entrance from İstiklâl Avenue. Built in eighteen seventy-six, the structure sits on the site of the former Naum Theatre, which burned down during the great fire of Beyoğlu in eighteen seventy. The banker Hristaki Zoğrafos Efendi purchased the ruined site and commissioned the current arcade, which was initially known as the Cité de Péra or Hristaki Passage.
