Hagia Triada Greek Orthodox Church

Hagia Triada Greek Orthodox Church is distinguished by its massive central dome and two towering, four-story bell towers that rise above the surrounding neighborhood of Beyoğlu. Completed in eighteen eighty, this structure stands as the largest Greek Orthodox shrine in Istanbul. Its presence was made possible by the Tanzimat reforms of the nineteenth century, which loosened restrictions on religious architecture. Before its construction, the site held a small wooden church and a cemetery that were eventually cleared to make way for this masonry building, which was designed in a mix of neo-baroque and neo-Byzantine styles by the architect known as Potesaros.
