Carter Lane Gardens

park garden

Carter Lane Gardens sits directly along the south side of Saint Paul’s Cathedral, defined by its concentric arc hedges that mirror the geometry of the cathedral dome. This landscaped space occupies land that was once densely built with houses and alleys until the night of December twenty-ninth, nineteen forty. During that night, aerial bombing fires destroyed the buildings along the northern side of Carter Lane. The ruins were never reconstructed, and the area later served as a coach park before its transformation into the public garden seen today.
