The Botanic Gardens are defined by the Palm House, a curvilinear glass and cast-iron structure that glints in the light. This conservatory, with its central dome and two wings, represents a pinnacle of Victorian engineering. Designed by architect Charles Lanyon and built by ironmaster Richard Turner, the building was completed in eighteen forty, with its signature elliptical dome added in eighteen fifty-two.
