Thomas Thompson Fountain

The Thomas Thompson Fountain stands as a tall, red sandstone monument at the intersection of Bedford Street and Ormeau Avenue. Built in eighteen eighty-five, this Victorian Gothic structure draws its design from the thirteenth-century Eleanor Crosses in England, complete with flying buttresses and spires. Among the carved stone figures at the base of the spire, one face stands out for its distinctively Victorian features, sporting a monocle and heavy whiskers.
