St George's Market is a red brick and sandstone building with Roman-styled arches near the River Lagan. It is the last surviving Victorian covered market in Belfast, constructed by the Belfast Corporation in three phases between eighteen ninety and eighteen ninety-six. While a market has operated on this site since sixteen hundred and four, the current structure replaced an earlier, smaller open-air site that originally housed a slaughterhouse and meat market.
