The Palm House

The Palm House in Belfast is instantly recognizable for its grand, curvilinear structure of glass and white-painted cast iron, crowned by a prominent central dome. Established in the eighteen thirties by the Belfast Botanic and Horticultural Society, this glasshouse predates similar iconic structures at Kew and Glasnevin. Architect Charles Lanyon designed the building, while Dublin ironmaster Richard Turner engineered its delicate, curved framework.
