City Hall Garden of Remembrance

The Garden of Remembrance at City Hall is a sunken memorial space located on the grounds of Belfast’s civic building. It is distinguished by a thirty-foot-high Portland stone cenotaph, which acts as a massive, empty tomb to commemorate soldiers from Ulster who died during the First World War. This monument is framed by a semi-circular colonnade of paired Corinthian columns, creating a formal, sanctuary-like setting that sits below the level of the surrounding city streets.
