The Lanyon Building is identified by its glowing, red-brick facade and a soaring central tower that echoes the architecture of medieval universities. This structure at Queen's University Belfast was constructed between eighteen forty-six and eighteen forty-nine, with its foundation stone laid on December thirtieth, eighteen forty-five. Sir Charles Lanyon designed the building in a Tudor-Gothic style, intentionally modeling its central tower on the Great Tower of Magdalen College in Oxford to signal the new institution's academic ambitions.
