The Linen Hall Library occupies a former Victorian linen warehouse on Donegall Square North, characterized by its stature as a listed nineteenth-century industrial building standing in the heart of the city. Founded in seventeen eighty-eight as the Belfast Library and Society for Promoting Knowledge, it remains the oldest library in Belfast and the last subscribing library in Ireland.
