Belfast Central Library

Belfast Central Library is distinguished by a red sandstone exterior that rests upon a heavy black granite base. Designed by architect William Henry Lynn, this three-story Victorian building opened on Royal Avenue in eighteen eighty-eight. Its construction was funded directly by the citizens of Belfast, reflecting the city’s industrial ambitions at a time when it was officially granted city status.
