The nine-foot bronze statue of David Hume sits on the Royal Mile, positioned directly in front of the High Court of Justiciary. Created by sculptor Alexander Stoddart and unveiled in nineteen ninety-seven, the monument depicts the Scottish philosopher seated and wearing a flowing Roman-style toga. Hume, who lived in Edinburgh from seventeen eleven until his death in seventeen seventy-six, was a central figure of the Scottish Enlightenment, known for his work in economics, history, and empirical philosophy.
