Tron Kirk Market

historic

The Tron Kirk rises from the Royal Mile as a seventeenth-century stone landmark, instantly recognizable by its prominent octagonal stone spire and the large, arched windows that line its walls. King Charles the First ordered its construction between sixteen thirty-seven and sixteen forty-seven to serve the North-West parish after he designated Saint Giles as a cathedral. Royal master mason John Mylne designed the building by blending Palladian and Gothic styles, incorporating a rare hammerbeam-style roof that survives inside the masonry shell today.
