Los Angeles Central Library

The Los Angeles Central Library is defined by its central tower, which is crowned with a colorful, tiled mosaic pyramid and a hand clutching a torch that symbolizes the light of learning. Located at six hundred thirty West Fifth Street, this structure is a blend of the original nineteen twenty-six building, designed by architect Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue, and a large modern wing completed in nineteen ninety-three. Its exterior features limestone sculptures by artist Lee Lawrie and geometric motifs that draw from Egyptian and Mediterranean styles.
