El Palo Alto Park

El Palo Alto Park is defined by a single, ancient coast redwood tree that towers over the banks of San Francisquito Creek. This tree, also named El Palo Alto, is over one thousand years old and reaches a height of approximately one hundred and ten feet. It provided a reliable landmark for travelers centuries before the surrounding city was ever established, and its name, meaning the tall tree or tall stick in Spanish, eventually became the name of the entire municipality.
