La Grande Tank is a steel water tower perched on the northwestern edge of John McLaren Park, distinguishable by its distinct Tiffany-blue color and deep vertical seams. Standing eighty feet tall, the structure was built in nineteen fifty-six to provide water pressure for the surrounding Excelsior neighborhood. At the time of its construction, the tank served about four hundred homes and offered a bonus to local residents by improving their television reception.
