Mother's Building

The Mother's Building, also known as the Delia Fleishhacker Memorial Building, is a rectangular Italian Renaissance-style structure recognizable by its red tile hipped roof and exterior walls featuring pilasters and sculpted friezes of children at play. Built in nineteen twenty-five, it was a gift to the city from brothers Herbert and Mortimer Fleishhacker to honor their mother. Originally, it functioned as a private sanctuary where mothers could nurse, rest, and receive medical advice while their children used the nearby recreational facilities.
