Fleishhacker Pool

The Fleishhacker Pool site is marked by three ornate stone archways that stand near the San Francisco Zoo parking lot. These remnants are all that survive of a massive saltwater swimming complex that opened here in nineteen twenty-five. Financed by park commissioner Herbert Fleishhacker, the pool stretched one thousand feet in length and held six and a half million gallons of filtered seawater pumped directly from the Pacific Ocean.
