Lake Merced

Lake Merced is a large freshwater body on the southwestern edge of San Francisco, distinguished by a four-mile paved loop that separates its calm waters from the surrounding golf courses and hills. Once a lagoon open to the Pacific Ocean, the lake was disconnected by a dam in eighteen ninety-five to serve as a municipal reservoir.
