Rancho Laguna de la Merced

The landscape here is defined by the expanse of Lake Merced, a freshwater body originally christened Laguna de Nuestra Señora de la Merced in seventeen seventy-five. This area was once part of a two-thousand-two-hundred-acre Mexican land grant known as Rancho Laguna de la Merced, which was awarded to José Antonio Galindo in eighteen thirty-five. The ranch lands encompassed rolling dunes and hills that served as grazing ground for cattle long before the city expanded into these quiet southwestern reaches.
