Mercy High School (San Francisco)

The site at thirty-two fifty Nineteenth Avenue is marked by a large, multipurpose pavilion dedicated to Catherine McAuley. This location served as Mercy High School, a Catholic all-girls college-preparatory institution that operated here for sixty-eight years. Bishop James T. O'Dowd requested the school to serve families in the Sunset, Lakeside, and Parkmerced districts, leading to an opening in September nineteen fifty-two. Classes originally began in a partially finished building while construction continued until nineteen fifty-four.
