St. Francis Wood Historic District

St. Francis Wood is a master-planned neighborhood designed around wide, curving streets that lack any overhead utility lines. Established in nineteen twelve by the Mason-McDuffie Company on land formerly owned by Adolph Sutro, the area was developed as a residence park to reflect the City Beautiful movement. The Olmsted Brothers laid out the site, integrating curvilinear roads and landscaped medians to match the natural topography of the land.
