The building is a sprawling, red-brick industrial structure with tall, round-arched windows that sit prominently at the confluence of the South Platte River and Cherry Creek. Built between nineteen oh one and nineteen oh four, it originally served as the Denver Tramway Powerhouse, generating the electricity that powered the city’s early electric streetcar network. To keep the turbines cool, the company built the plant directly beside the river, while nearby rail lines allowed for the daily delivery of over one hundred seventy tons of coal.
