The four-story red brick structure near Union Station was constructed in eighteen eighty-three as a car barn and horse stable for the Denver City Railway Company. It sits prominently as a massive, industrial-era building that functioned as the primary terminal for the city’s inaugural public transit network. Its design, characterized by heavy masonry, provided the necessary space to house the company’s horses and rail cars during the decade before electric systems replaced animal power.
