The Historic Alfred I. duPont Building

The Alfred I. duPont Building rises seventeen stories above East Flagler Street as a prominent example of Depression Moderne architecture. Completed in nineteen thirty-nine, the stone-clad skyscraper signaled Miami's economic recovery following the devastation of the nineteen twenty-six hurricane and the Great Depression. Its exterior features a striking base of black granite, while the vertical lines and setbacks create a sense of refined, understated grandeur.
