The Freedom Tower rises above Biscayne Boulevard with a slender, octagonal cupola that mirrors the Giralda bell tower in Seville, Spain. Completed in nineteen twenty-five, the building features pink stucco walls and elaborate Mediterranean Revival details, including wrought iron balconies and Corinthian columns. It was commissioned by newspaper publisher James Middleton Cox to serve as the headquarters and printing facility for The Miami News, and its design was intended to serve as a lighthouse of the Americas.
