Kawaiahaʻo Church

Kawaiahaʻo Church is distinguished by walls constructed from fourteen thousand slabs of coral rock. These blocks, some weighing as much as one thousand pounds, were harvested by Hawaiian divers who chiseled them by hand from offshore reefs before transporting them to shore by canoe. This massive structure, designed by Reverend Hiram Bingham and completed in eighteen forty-two, features a neoclassical New England style that contrasts with the modern city streets around it.
